Do you have some memos, notes, or tasks that you always want to pin beautiful photos to your desktop and have them floating above other windows so you can see, compare, copy or recall memories from time to time to keep motivating yourself? In addition to its primary image viewing functionality, Picview also has a built-in pin and paste feature that allows you to take any images or text from anywhere and transform them into sticky notes to paste on your desktop.

What is the use of pinning and pasting

When writing papers or articles, do you often forget what you wrote in previous paragraphs and frequently scroll through pages to review previous content, interrupting your writing flow? When working, do you often open your to-do list for the day, check WeChat conversations, etc. to interrupt your work focus? Picview can help you. When writing papers, you can pin previous paragraphs or information found online next to your writing window for easy reference, without interrupting your flow. You can also pin your to-do list and important chat records in a corner of your desktop for quick viewing throughout the day.

How to use pinning and pasting

There are three ways to use pinning and pasting in Picview:

  1. Use it while browsing photos in Picview. When you open an image in Finder by double clicking and browsing through photos with Picview, you can directly press ⌘ + D to pin the photo you are currently viewing onto the desktop so it floats above other windows.

  2. Use it anywhere content can be copied, such as when browsing web pages, documents, or viewing photos. Because Picview has the ability to paste text or images from the clipboard onto the desktop, when you copy content from a web page, press ⌥ + ⌘ + N to directly paste the copied content onto the desktop. Pressing ⌥ + ⌘ + N after copying an image will directly pin the image to the desktop. ⌥ + ⌘ + N is the global shortcut key for “New Pin from clipboard” in Picview. You can customize it in Picview Settings > Shortcuts if you don’t like this shortcut, just avoid conflicts with other apps.

  3. Directly double click an image to open it in Picview for pinning. This changes Picview’s default opening method and requires setting the “Opening Mode” to “Pin on Desktop” in Picview Settings > Viewer > Open first.

As can be seen from the second pinning method, Picview has the ability to convert text from the clipboard into an image and pin it to the desktop. Font, page margins, max page width etc. of the converted text can be set in Picview Settings > Pin & Paste > Text to Image.

Features of pinning and pasting

Picview not only transforms images/text into pinned images on the desktop, but also performs OCR text recognition on pinned images, allowing selection, copying, translating of image text seamlessly. Picview blurs the lines between images and text by allowing images to be treated like documents. This allows directly selecting and copying text from pinned images while writing papers or documents.

In addition, mouse scroll can zoom pins, double click to close pins, and supports features like left/right rotation, vertical/horizontal flipping. Window shadows and transparency can also be set.

End

Pinned sticky notes are always on top and within easy reach, keeping important snippets of information for you so your focus flows uninterrupted.
